Connective Tissue Hydration with Body Postures

Friday, January 10th, 2020

Jacksonville Yoga studio is now offering Medicinal Movement classes: relieving body pain through correct alignment.

Medicinal Movement classA seasoned exercise veteran, with four decades of exercise and body movement specialties, Joyce Savitz has found that as we age the connective tissue gets more dehydrated resulting in stuck energy and subsequent pain.

Hydrating this tissue with movements allows body tissue to become more pliable and flexible again, which ultimately helps the skeletal structure to return to its correct alignment, thus relieving bodily pain.

Savitz shared, “It’s all about connective tissue. I loved my client’s responses when I started offering Yoga Rolling classes which targets connective tissue by rolling the body on soft foam rollers. I loved it but when I started working with another way of alignment using bent legs vs straight, I immediately knew this technique was a game changer.”

I now teach you how to use your body in a curvy, springy, and healthy postures which create optimal functionality and graceful movement for any body.

You will learn alignment that will not only take you out of pain but will change your life by recognizing the greatness within yourself and sending that out into the world.

Posture Wellness Classes at Jacksonvilleyoga.com

Friday, January 10th, 2020

Our posture makes all the difference in how we age.

In these past two years, I have learned for my self as well as my clients how we sit, how we sit down, and how we get up can save our backs, knees, feet, and hips.

Crouching Cat pose - Power Through Posture classHow we hold our ribs can save our shoulders, our necks, arms, hips and lower back.  The breath makes all the difference in how we are able to support ourselves.  The Latin meaning of breath is Spirit.

What saddens me is seeing so many people my age and younger walking with a limp and grimacing as they go to sit or stand.  Also, it does take a little time to break our old patterns that are thousands of years old.

The more we start to repattern our old neuropathways,  the more we save ourselves from aging “dis-ease”.

Join us for our  classes at JacksonvilleYoga.com.  Just call teacher Joyce Savitz (904) 635-6762 for more information about Medicinal Movement and to sign up to join our classes!

Your mind, body and spirit will thank you!!

Why Medicinal Movement?

Thursday, January 9th, 2020

Twisted cat pose - Power Thru PostureI have done Yoga since 1974.  I have seen the changes that have happened in my body as I age.  I have known other people who have taken Yoga with me in the past as well as teachers who have taught even longer than me.  What astounded me was the number of hip replacements that have happened in this field of the people we have all respected. Some of these “advanced” poses have caused ligament damage in my knees (and I have used good alignment skills while doing these poses).  In the past few years, I haven’t felt GREAT after practice so it inspired me to move to other avenues such as the MELT Method, Neuro Kinetic Therapy (NKT), Bowspring, etc.

Pyramid pose with Bow, Arc, Twist - Power Thru PostureI have developed Medicinal Movement – a simplified series of movements which are invigorating yet nurturing; the most restorative practices I have ever experienced.

What I also have learned is that as SOON as I misalign, I know it!  It just doesn’t feel right and therefore I can effectively correct. What I have noticed in other styles that I have done and taught, I could get away with misaligning and not feel the negative impact so could “get away with it” until it was too late.  And this is from someone that has ALWAYS worked hard on alignment!!

It would be so much easier to just keep teaching the same thing and people seem to like not having to change.  However, I can’t honestly do something when I have found another way that is so much more healthy for my body, mind and spirit.  I am used to being a pioneer in that I started Yoga here way before many and even got ridiculed.

So once again we begin and move into a new, healthier direction.
