Belly Forward to Relieve Lower Back Pain

The instruction I have used and heard in the past is "belly back and tailbone down". That practice created a nerniated disc in my lumbar curve which lead to sleepless nights. Now after years of working with my teachers(John and Desi) the instruction has changed to "after lifting the ribs and drawing the hips back, allow the belly to stretch forward and up" and so has the sleepless nights and lower back pain.
